In this issue, I look back to the time I almost lost my Base Set Charizard card. We also have the latest Pokémon news and more from the Johto Times mailbag
I was also such a trusting kid and would have been equally devastated by such a sudden betrayal! I'm sorry things didn't work out with this guy, but it's lovely tnat you tried!
Also super cool photo from 99! I may have to think about submitting something!
Thanks for your message, Cupcakedex! I think it shaped me as a person, I was definitely a lot more cautious after that. It wasn't the last time friends stole from me unfortunately, but I was able to get all the things (to my knowledge) back when they did happen. I was also firm on how they wouldn't be coming over to the house again as a result. Many of these people I no longer speak with, so it's not exactly a big deal. We learn, we grow, we adapt.
As for the photograph, I assume you mean our mailbag feature? It is quite special isn't it? I hope you do decide to submit something at some point, you can currently find our contact details in the Mailbag section of the newsletter
Thanks for sharing!! I would have been devastated had that happen to me, and the culprit get away. We learn important lessons at that age. I hope your friend learned his from this experience. And you, yours. Presumably that card is now kept under lock and key 24/7 :)
Hi Paul, thank you for your comment! Despite getting the card back, I felt utterly betrayed by my friend, and it ruined our friendship. One thing I didn't mention in the feature is that this friend met up with me about a decade later after I moved away from my home town. While we never brought the topic up again, it was in the back of my mind. Unfortunately, he betrayed my trust once again that evening for reasons I won't get into here. As we were both adults at this point, it became clear to me that he wasn't the person I thought he was, and I am doubtful he ever learned from his experience.
However, I do accept that these experiences usually are a part of growing up, and I believe we have all been guilty of doing something wrong in our childhood that we learn and grow from. We should also do our best to correct those mistakes if possible, which I tried to do years after I messed up as a kid. Maybe I'll share some stories at some point!
Rest assured, the Charizard card is indeed kept very safe!
