Personal stories from the people who attended the very first Pokémon event outside of Japan in 1998. We also have an update on the Johto Times newsletter, and more from our mailbag!
Reading through everyone's childhood stories makes me envious for a time I was not around for, hahaha. This is one of my favorite Johto Times issues so far, I think! I especially enjoyed the pictures of the Pikabugs - someone local to where I live owns and restored one of the original Pikabugs, and I got to take photos next to it and see it in person for the first time at a local Pokémon convention a few months ago, so seeing it in its original context feels pretty surreal.
Thanks very much for your comment Ayano! I believe I am familiar with that restoration, it's really cool to see all of them in one place like this, the very first time they were shown in public! I do wonder what became of the other cars though. I did read that Nintendo still have a couple, but it's a topic I'd have to research more deeply.
I hope you'll continue to enjoy what we are writing here at Johto Times!
Not sure whether it's a mistake, I've never played a Pokémon game and have never been a fan of the series, but you put a note about Topeka being renamed for Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee in 2008, do you mean 2018?
Loved reading the first-hand accounts from Topikachu! I'd heard about the event before, but not much of what it was actually like. The Pikachu air drop sounds wild!

Correct. It was 2018! I shall update the page. Thank you!
