Welcome to Vol. 3, issue 21 of Johto Times! This week, we are doing something a little different and announcing our Favourite Pokémon Poll, where we hope to discover which of the 1025 currently released Pokémon is the favourite amongst Pokémon fans! We hope that you will cast your vote in each of the nine different polls. As usual, we also have a recap of the latest Pokémon news.

Nintendo have confirmed that the free Pokémon Scarlet & Violet software update release for Nintendo Switch 2 will release on the same day as the console launches – June 5th, 2025. The game will feature optimised visuals for the Switch 2 console and high-resolution televisions for improved image quality and an improved frame rate for smoother movement. Two screenshots for the game were released by Pokémon Korea, showing more Pokémon spawns on screen than in the original released version.

Last month, we reported that the Pokémon Center in Fukuoka would be closing for renovation and will reopen in the summer. It has now been confirmed that the new store will be opening next month on June 27th, 2025, selling exclusive merchandise themed around the store’s mascots Latias, Latios, and Pikachu. Keychains, plush toys, meal sets, and rice crackers will be available once the store reopens. More details can be found on the official website linked below.

A new Drop Event is currently taking place in Pokémon TCG Pocket, featuring Alolan Ninetales. Promo cards, which include Toucannon, Crabrawler, Alolan Exeggutor, Alolan Grimer, and Alolan Ninetales, can be obtained through solo battles against the CPU. The event began on May 16th and will run until May 26th, 2025. Check out the in-game news within the app for more details.

Just before our newsletter launched this week, we got an announcement of a new themed booster pack coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket on May 29th, 2025, called “Extradimensional Crisis”. This Ultra Beast-themed set contains cards like Buzzwole ex, Blacephalon, Nihilego and Guzzlord ex. Full details in the link below!

Feature: Johto Times Favourite Pokémon Poll 2025
After the success of our Favourite Starter Pokémon Poll 2024, I wanted to conduct a much larger experiment to determine which Pokémon is the fans’ favourite. Between May 17th and July 31st, 2025, Johto Times will run a poll for each Pokémon generation, from Kanto to Paldea, and invite Pokémon fans to cast their vote on their favourites!
Participants can vote for their six favourite Pokémon in each poll.
Each poll will run for ten weeks, between May 17th and July 31st, 2025.
In August 2025 we will reveal the results of each poll, and the top ten Pokémon from each will move through to the grand final, which will take place later that month.
